Dr. Aryeh Shander is the Emeritus Chair, Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Pain Management and Hyperbaric Medicine at Englewood Hospital & Medical Center in Englewood, New Jersey. He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, Medicine & Surgery at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Shander is the Executive Medical Director of The Institute for Patient Blood Management and Bloodless Medicine and Surgery at Englewood Hospital. Dr. Shander also serves as the Clinical Research Director for TeamHealth Anesthesia.
Dr. Shander received his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center where he also served as Chief Resident. Additional postgraduate training included a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine and a residency in Anesthesiology, both at Montefiore Medical Center. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Anesthesiology and Hyperbaric Medicine.
Dr. Shander lectures nationally and internationally on a variety of topics related to anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and patient blood management. His publications have appeared in many prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals and he has authored, edited, or contributed to multiple book chapters and textbooks.
Dr. Stephen R. Southworth is a three-time, board-certified orthopedic surgeon in full time orthopedic surgery practice, and also has a research practice, at the Orthopaedic Institute of North Mississippi, PLLC. He holds memberships in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, among other professional societies. Dr. Southworth is an Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Southworth is Chair of the Institutional Review Board for North Mississippi Health Services, a 7-hospital system based in Tupelo, Mississippi. Dr. Southworth was the first principal investigator to publish a large scale trial of intravenous ibuprofen for perioperative multimodal analgesia.
Dr. Southworth earned his medical degree and completed his residency training at the Medical College of Ohio. He went on to complete an orthopedic fellowship at Rancho Los Amigos National Medical Center in Downey, California. Outside of his medical education, Dr. Southworth also holds a MBA from Knoxville-based University of Tennessee and a Master of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of South Carolina.
Dr. David Samuels is a board-certified anesthesiologist and has practiced for 28 years at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in Tampa, Florida. He was Assistant Professor at University of South Florida, College of Medicine from 1990-1993. During this time, he was the Co-Director of Acute Pain Management services at TGH. He served as medical director of the operating rooms at Tampa General Hospital from 1993-1996. Dr. Samuels then had an anesthesia practice for twenty years at TGH per the request of 4 surgeons. From 2016 through 2018, he was the facility medical director for TeamHealth at an ENT ambulatory surgery center where he cared for more than 3,200 patients without using any opioids intraoperatively. He is the founder of NOPE! (Non-opioid Patient Engagement). Dr. Samuels’ study, “Opioid-free Anesthesia Results in Reduced Post-operative Opioid Consumption” was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia and Pain Management.
Dr. Samuels received his medical degree from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine and completed his residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center. His areas of expertise includes utilizing non-opioid anesthesia as a gateway to turning the tide on the prescription opioid crisis.
Dr. Jeffrey Fudin graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences with his Bachelor’s Degree and PharmD. He then completed an Oncology/ Hematology fellowship at SUNY/Upstate Medical Center. He is a Diplomate to the Academy of Integrative Pain Management and a Fellow to the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Federation of State Medical Boards.
Dr. Fudin is a Section Editor for Pain Medicine, Co-Editor-At-Large for Practical Pain Management, Founder/Chairman of Professionals for Rational Opioid Monitoring & Pharmacotherapy, and peer reviewer for several professional journals. He has participated in developing practice guidelines for the use of opioids in chronic noncancer pain and national and international guideline development for various pain types.
Dr. Fudin is a Founder and Board of Trustee for the Society of Palliative Care Pharmacists where he serves on several committees. He is a member of several professional organizations and is appointed as a Board Member to the New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct. He is also owner and managing editor for paindr.com and Founder and CEO of Remitigate LLC. Dr. Fudin has been an invited speaker on pain management nationally and internationally and has authored over 300 publications.
